Philippine Idol Goldpassers: Impressive
WE'RE quite inpressed with the first two episodes of "Philippine Idol". The first telecast showed its auditions in Luzon held at the PICC.

The next one showed the auditions held at Bigfoot Entertainment in Cebu. A lot of those who took the auditions are really funny. Some even threatened the jurors for rejecting them. Ryan Cayabyab, Pilita Corrales and Francis Magalona proved to be too kind-hearted compared to Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson of "American Idol".
All those who got the gold pass will not join the next round of eliminations called the "Hell Week". But before that, we get to see this Sunday what transpired at the last leg of the the auditions, the one held at Waterfront Insular Hotel.
The gold passers from Cebu and Davao are now actually in Manila. They arrived via Superferry on July 31. On board the Superferry, the contestants were treated by Superferry to a special program called "Cebu Idol On Board Superferry 18" and "Davao Idol On Board Superferry 15".
We all watched the first episode of Philippine Idol while at the Superferry", says Fred Abaquita of Cebu. "Natuwa kami kasi ang ganda."
"Out trip to Manila was fun," says Belle Padillo, also from Cebu. "Nagkantahan kami at nag-bonding on board the Superferry." Some of the goldpassers visit Manila for the first time so they're excited to see the big city. "I got here for free because I'm part of Philippine Idol," says 26-year old Robert Bernadas. "Doon pa lang, I already feel like a winner".
All the Cebu and Davao goldpassers are now staying at Bayview Park Hotel, until the top 24 contestants are revealed. Bayview tendered a party for them and Marissa Nicolas, Philippine Idol executive producer, says there are 157 goldpassers in the affair. They were asked to introduce themselves one by one to foster greater camaraderie among them. Some contestants easily stand out because they're lookalikes of celebrities. Joseph Astor of Pampanga looks like Piolo Pascual. Marc Stroem who sang "Anak" looks like Cogie Domingo. Paul Andre Ybanez from Manila is a deadringer for Spiderman Tobey Maguire.
Be sure to follow the careers of these wannabe superstars on "Philippine Idol", Sundays at 8 p.m., after Joey de Leon's "Teka Mona".
