Exciting Finals for Philippine Idol
ABC-5's 'Philippine Idol' gets more exciting this weekend when the finals officially start. On Saturday, September 30, 9 PM, the 12 finalists will be singing an OPM song of their choice and they can dedicate it to someone. The next day will be results night and we'll see who among them will be the first to be eliminated, based on who got the lowest text votes. Last weekend was a breather for the finalists as the show staged "Kakaibang Idol", won by Bayo. Now, the real contest begins.
Our top three choices among the guys are: Gian Magdangal, 24 - A theatre actor who's a rousing performer, he used to be a member of the Kundirana and the boy band 17:28. This is the first competition he joined. Reymond Sajor, 27 - This balikbayan from Canada won the viewers' hearts when his microphone conked out while he was singing a Billy Joel song, but he continued to perform with aplomb.
Miguel Mendoza, 17 - The youngest contestant, what endears him to the public is his great height and clean cut good looks. And oh yes, he can also sing. 
Among the girls, our top three are: Pow Chavez, 23 - This cross-dresser refuses to wear women's clothes but you can't help but be won by her when she starts singing as she has a really fantastic voice. A true survivor, she's the crowd's favorite with a bullet slug lodged in her face, given to her by a violent holdupper.
Armarie Cruz, 27 - The daughter of the late Muslim actor Muhammad Faizal and a cousin of Sheryl, Geneva and Donna, she says it's unfair to compare her with her more famous relatives. "Marami pa akong kakaining bigas bago makahabol sa kanila," she adds. Jeli Mateo, 23 - She's the counterpart of Miguel in being tall and lovely. She can very well be a beauty queen, but this lounge singer is also gifted with good vocal pipes.
