Philippine Idol Second Results Show (Part IV)
PHILIPPINE Idol finalists Stephanie "Stef" Lazaro and Andre "Drae" Ybanez, the first two contestants to be voted off from ABC 5's singing talent search program, are convinced they got booted out not because they are inferior singers but because they "didn't get enough votes."
"Unlike the other contenders, I don't have a solid group of voters," Drae told Inquirer Entertainment in an interview on Monday.
Stef agreed: "I just didn't connect with the audience. They all have their favorites. Maybe I wasn't who they wanted. Also, my fan base wasn't as large as the others, although my family and friends campaigned really hard."
Drae, the 26-year-old from Lapu-Lapu, Cebu, also believed that his overall ranking in the Top 12 was affected because the show chose to "carry over" last week's votes. "My performance at that time wasn't my best. Two of the three judges weren't pleased," he explained.
Last week, the show canceled its first elimination round due to technical glitches brought about by Typhoon "Milenyo."
Now that he is out of the competition, Drae said he would continue helping the kids of the Children's Garden, a drop-in center for street kids in Antipolo City, and the Child Care Community Ministries, a Cainta, Rizal-based organization that conducts feeding programs in key areas in the country.
Stef, 27, is considering the possibility of inking a deal with a recording company. "I also miss spending time with my family and friends," added the mom to 3-year-old Charlize.
When your name was called on Sunday night, what was on your mind?
Drae: Honestly, all I could think about then was whether I could still sing my piece. I didn't have enough sleep on Saturday night and my throat was hurting. The fact that I was voted off hadn't sunk in then.
Stef: I felt nothing. I just went blank. I was numb. I asked myself, "Am I dreaming?"
