Seventh Expulsion Night (Part II)

It was a surprising expulsion night to say the least; and amidst the chaos Iya, the songbird from Pangasinan, returns to her hometown as the seventh scholar to be expelled from the Pinoy Dream Academy.

Tonight's gala event came fresh off the scholars' midterm exams, which left them stressed to say the least; and tonight the tension was also heavy, with Judges Freddie Aguilar and Nonoy Zuniga serving comments straight up.

Chad was coming off a powerful performance last gala night with his rendition of 'Anak', however, in an ironic twist, it was Pinoy rock icon Freddie Aguilar who found this week's performance lackluster. "Okay yung dating, pero maraming off-key," Freddie noted. "Kulang sa puso… overall, maraming room for improvement."

Michelle, who's standing on the edge with four nominations, delivered beautifully. Kitchie Molina compliments her performance, saying: "She looks like a star… and nagtapos ka nang maayos. A good fighting performance." Her score of 7.4 saved her from another nomination, and automatic expulsion from the Academy.

Irish, who was battling a throat infection, sang 'Somewhere' and earned nothing but praise; no other than legendary composer Nonoy Zuniga complimented her on her near-perfect tone, despite flatting out on the last. He added, however, that Irish's mind was somewhere as well; Judge Nonoy noticed her eyes flutter, and told her to keep her concentration. However, her fans' concentration never waned; by garnering 34.62% of the text votes, she became the first to be saved from expulsion.

Baguio native Yvan was last of the probes, but definitely not the least; in fact, many of the scholars, including him, were surprised with his nomination. His rendition of the Neocolours hit 'Say You'll Never Go' had Judge Nonoy Zuniga notice a few blotches on an otherwise impressive performance. "Mahirap talaga yung kanta mo, at medyo kulang ka sa emosyon… pero ang galing mo." This was enough to keep him in the Academy, earning the faculty's thumbs up.

Also, the scholars' midterm grades were also announced. Chai got the highest among the scholars with an impressive score of 92.53 percent. Rosita, however, who struggled on both voice theory and diction midterms, got an automatic nomination (her third) with 68.63 percent, the bottom rung on the midterm scoring ladder.
