What's there to look forward to in Mars Ravelo's Captain Barbell? Lots! Paolo Bediones, who plays Captain B, Captain Barbell's biological father from the future, gives us his top five.
I. The Story
"There are so many elements," Paolo says. "The storyline, for some people, may be an amalgamation of all the superhero and telenovela twists, turns and surprises."
II. The Characters… and the Actors Who Play Them
"I'm very grateful (for the) Captain Barbell the series," says Paolo. "Why it will work is number one, there is that commitment of all the artists to give their best."
The actor's dedication and skill in their craft pushes them to develop their characters into personalities that the public will recognize, accept, and love. Paolo says, "Number two, although there are caricature characters, the acting is not caricature. I've seen the scenes and they're like, wow!"
III. The Technology
Paolo speaks for everyone who has worked on the show, from the cast to the staff and crew, when he says, "In terms of technology, we have pushed the envelope here and have decided that we are not going to go for ‘pwede na yan.' We are going to go for ‘oh my God, how can this be a TV show and not a movie?'"
The pride he takes in being part of the show is obvious, as the opportunity to be part of a television show that is both groundbreaking, and an integral part of Pinoy pop culture.
IV. The Crush ng Bayan Factor
"Number four, of course, we have a very attractive cast," says Paolo. "We have good-looking guys, we have hunks, we have respected actors. We also have a couple of first-timers who deliver."
Richard Gutierrez takes on the prized dual role of Teng and Captain Barbell, while newcomer Rhian Ramos is Leah, the girl who captures his heart. Also in the cast are veteran actors Snooky Serna, Richard Gomez, alongside teen stars Patrick Garcia, Sunshine Dizon, Ryan Yllana and Camille Prats. There is no doubt that there are several different types of hot that fans can swoon over.
V. The Vision
"Last but not the least, there's the vision of the entire production team," Paolo says. "They've come out with something that has never been seen on TV before." He continues, "Apart from the technology, we're talking about big sets, we're talking about costumes, we're talking about the styling. Even the barbell, it's not just an ordinary barbell."
Paolo is proud to say that he is the first person in the series to hold the new and improved barbell. "I have a scene where I hold that barbell up and I'm like, ‘Wow!'" he exclaims happily.
